Introducing a new book on evangelism: It was 2 years in the making, it started as a desire to capture some key evangelism lessons from the book of Jonah. As I studied and preached through the book of Jonah the scope expanded to include seeing the gospel illustrated in this short book of the Bible. Jonah is mentioned in just a few places outside of the book bearing his name. He is mentioned as a prophet in 2 Kings 14 and also in parallel passage in Matthew 12 and Luke 11 when Jesus tells the Pharisees they will receive no sign except the sign of Jonah.

Most prominent in the story is a picture of Jesus’ death and resurrection in his descent into the deep of the sea and held captive by the great fish that God sent to rescue him before spewing him out on dry ground after 3 days.
Many of us can identify with Jonah is his rebellion and reluctance to share the message with others. Even in his flight, Jonah bore witness to the name of God to the sailors before they cast him into the sea. In this story we also see God working in compassion and mercy to save the people of Nineveh. We even see that salvation is by faith.
In this book I hope you will be encouraged in your evangelism. I hope those who do not actively share their faith will be urged to do that through Jonah’s example. I want everyone who reads this book to see and understand the gospel in the pages of scripture. I want to build a deeper understanding of the gospel and evangelism so that you can have clarity and confidence in God’s message. I also believe that those who have not encountered the gospel will be challenged to wrestle with it and turn to God in faith.
Rob Hewitt, III with Livingstones Studio did a great job with the illustrations and cover art. The image on the cover of the book is meant to depict the light of the gospel piercing the darkness to reach Jonah. The great fish is appointed by God pursuing Jonah to rescue him even while experiencing discipline for his rebellion.
